Studies can be summed up: “By every measure we have, those children who read the most outside of school, also read the best.” Children who read one million words in a year score in the top two percent on standardized tests. And in a year, children learn 4,000 to 12,000 new words by reading books. If one million words seem unattainable - Even 15 minutes a day of independent reading can expose students to more than a million words of text in a year.
